Photography gallery is located in one of the towers of Tauragė Castle, which was started by the then museum photographer Romualdas Vaitkus. Since its establishment in 2003, the gallery has been organizing exhibitions of the most famous Lithuanian photographers, press photographers and local photographers. The gallery’s exposition is formed through two floors of the tower, where it is possible to exhibit 30-40 large-format works.
The consistent historical narrative of the Tauragė region begins with prehistory and continues to the present day. Archaeological finds, the remains of the Tauragė manor, the features of the border with Prussia, the world wars, the devastated land, and the flourishing of a modern industrial city. The ethnographic region of Southern Samogitia is presented by the material heritage of this region. Peasants’ household and household items, textiles, national costume that has kept local traditions. There is an interactive table representing the national costumes of women and men of all five ethnographic regions of Lithuania. There are colored puzzles on the walls with St. George, tree of life and various chest pattern images. In the Folk Art Hall, old folk art and works of folk artists of the Tauragė region shine in all their beauty.
After the implementation of the project, representative spaces appeared in Tauragė Castle Halls, where the surviving 19th century pavement, original arches were opened, Empire-style interior was restored.
